Field Recording: Contact mics attached to trees

No better way to spend a windy Sunday afternoon than listening to branch friction in your yard. I attached a pair of 35mm contact mics to some branches with masking tape, plugged them into my Dual OPA Piezo Impedance Buffer, then into the Mix Pre 6 II. The results are creaky, squeaky, and little different. With the aid of the OPA Impedance Buffer, we can even hear some birdsong. That detail would be lost if I was just using contact mics and the built-in preamp.

This was a fun little sound experiment. I’m sure my neighbors had a good laugh watching.
